Zenith Interiors founder sells $22 million-plus Portsea pad after four days

EXCLUSIVE

Zenith Interiors founder John Fisher and his wife, Jenny, are speculated to have sold a $22 million-plus trophy Portsea home after four days.

The Hamptons-inspired residence, on a 2800 square metre plot covering 3684-3686 Point Nepean Road, was built just seven years ago, replacing an older home for which they paid $2.3 million in 2007.

The main residence includes six bedrooms. The Fishers acquired the neighbouring block and built a tennis court and gazebo three years ago – ahead of their daughter’s wedding.

Later (ahead of their daughter’s wedding), the couple acquired and amalgamated a neighbouring block, adding a tennis court, pavilion, sunken garden and second street access to their holding.

The Mornington Peninsula estate, now known as Moonya, also includes a swimming pool and gym.

Inside there are six bedrooms, formal and informal living areas, and several outdoor zones capturing Portsea’s famous north-facing water views.

Local agency sources say the sale price would have exceed the upper end guide ($22 million) for a deal to have been sealed so soon.

Marketing agent Rob Curtain, of Sotheby’s, said upon listing Moonya that it was rare a new home was being offered on Portsea’s revered clifftop.

The agent was not available to comment about speculation the property has already sold.

However Moonya’s online listing – posted late last week – was removed yesterday afternoon.

Sources familiar with the area say the holiday home was well received and has moved.

They speculate the sale price would most likely have comfortably exceeded the upper end of the guide price ($22 million), for a deal to be sealed so soon.

Earlier this year we reported that cricketer Ricky Ponting and his wife, Rianna, spent $3.5 million on a non-waterfront home also on Point Nepean Road, Portsea (pictured, bottom).

Moonya, on Portsea’s clifftop, covers 2800 square metres.

Both properties are near the Portsea compound owned by the Fox family and Ilyuka, on Point King Road (the Sorrento border).

Ilyuka remains the most valuable publicly recorded sale on the Mornington Peninsula (Computershare co-founder Michele O’Halloran sold it to investor John Higgins for $26 million in 2010).

In June we reported that Lindsay Fox paid $3 million for a 1658 sqm plot at the southern edge of Sorrento’s Ocean Beach Road retail strip. Four years earlier, Mr Fox paid $4.1 million for a c4000 sqm plot across the road from his latest Sorrento site, which is as yet undeveloped.

The Ponting home is walking distance to the Portsea Hotel.
