Union buys North Melbourne office, car park
The Rail, Tram and Bus Industry Union Victorian division will shift headquarters within the city’s inner north.
The group has outlaid $4.5 million for a renovated office at 15-19 Gracie Street, on the corner of Reynolds, in North Melbourne.
Over two levels it contains 832 square metres.
Dual title – the property includes an open-air car park at 11 Gracie St – the land spans 1068 sqm.
The deal comes eight months since we reported the Australian Services Union sold its Carlton headquarters to an apartment developer.
That group reaped $12.05m.
In late 2024 meanwhile the Australian Education Union of Victoria bought a South Melbourne office to occupy.
It outlaid $20m.
Cashed up unions
The two RTBU properties contain a total 16 parking bays.
The Special Use zoned site is in the heart of the Arden urban renewal precinct, opposite Clayton Reserve (continues below).

CVA’s Ian Angelico, Matt Knox and Craig McKellar were the agents.
The union will relocate from the ACTU Building at 365 Queen St, near the city’s north tip.

Arden taking shape
Spanning 40 hectares, Arden is expected to contain buildings up to 40 storeys at its edge, land presently controlled by VicTrack.
Twenty level buildings would be permitted for the most part.
The outgoing Lost Dog’s Home – opposite the union’s new headquarters – is earmarked for a park.
A state primary school has also been mooted for the as yet unbuilt south west corner of Queensberry and Laurens streets.
Upon completion in about 2065 it is expected to house 15,000 residents with its commercial precinct’s hoping to accommodate 34,000 workers.
The VACC completed the area’s first office – part for its headquarters – in 2020.
