Salvation Army to Sell Mont Albert Headquarters

The three-level 3775 square metre building at 3 – 7 Hamilton Street has been occupied by the Salvos since 1994. It is expected to reap around $13 million.

The building is located in a blue-ribbon pocket of the suburb, with the Mont Albert train station at one end, and tree-lined Mont Albert Road at the other. Importantly, the site is controlled by the Whitehorse City Council, which is considered more open to new development than the Boroondara City Council, which controls another part of the suburb.

Colliers International selling agent Peter Bremner says he expects the property to arouse interest from owner occupiers, investors and developers – which may convert and extend the building into a mixed use retail, residential and office project. The property is currently zoned Business 1.

The Salvation Army will up and leave for Blackburn in March 2008.
