Cupra makes it a dozen in Australia

Cupra Fortitude Valley (also top) replaced a bike store.

Cupra has opened a second sales garage in Brisbane and committed to another, in south west Sydney, bringing the number of national dealerships to 12 and service centres to 13.

Also this year, Cupra opened a Hobart dealership.

The Barcelona based car maker, formed in 2018 as the high-performance arm of Seat – both Volkswagen brands – arrived in Australia in late 2022.

With bases in every state and the Australian Capital Territory, it recently sold its 5000th car here.

Last month we reported Cupra would set up at a Zagame tenancy in Melbourne’s north west Essendon Fields, controlled by billionaire Lindsay Fox and Max Beck.

Cupra is set to open at Essendon Fields this year.

Also referred to as “the Spanish Volkswagen” – Cupra’s arrival to Australia marks a return for Seat, which traded here from 1992-1999.

Only one model from then – the Leon – makes it to the Cupra line up.

Its newest dealership and service centre is in Brisbane’s north east Fortitude Valley: 74-76 McLachlan Street, at the corner of Morgan, also on the block with Ann, was previously occupied by Home Premium Outlet and before that, bike shop Avantiplus.

The car maker operates from an Indooroopilly property too, seven kilometres south west of the CBD.

It also has a Gold Coast base (story continues below).

Cupra also just opened a Hobart dealership.

It recently committed to another – 12-18 Dunn Road, Smeaton Grange, about 60 kilometres from Sydney, in the Macarthur region, covered by Camden council.

It has bases in Adelaide’s CBD and in Perth, in south east St James, as well.

“As a young brand…in this country, one of our primary objectives is giving our customers confidence,” Cupra Australia director, Ben Wilks, said.

“We’ve been aggressive in our expansion plan and will continue to support that goal,” he added.

“We’ve seen some of the biggest names in Australian automotive like Alto Group, Eagers Automotive and Zagame Automotive really get behind the Cupra brand with multiple locations,” according to the executive.
