Clive Palmer drops $18.5m for Gold Coast penthouse

Clive Palmer has bought another trophy Mermaid Beach property – this time a full floor sub-penthouse in a recently completed Sunland project.

The full floor apartment spans 650 square metres.

The deal for the 650 square metre apartment is worth $18.5 million.

On the 43rd floor it contains four bedrooms, each with an ensuite.

Two are configured as master suites also with walk in wardrobes.

There is also a home theatre, study and entertainment terrace with a built-in kitchen, integrating with the wraparound balcony, and three car parks.

The vendors, Ansel and Jacqueline Clarke, paid $8.2m off-the-plan in 2021. They were represented for the on sale by Kolloshe’s Michael Kollosche, Danny Stanley and Matthew Follent.

Hedges Avenue is considered the Gold Coast’s most exclusive street (continues below).

Mr Palmer outlaid $12m in 2018 for his first main home in the street, a Hamptons style dwelling.

The property previously sold for $8.2m off-the-plan.

In 2024, he paid $28m for triple fronted Hedges Ave block and $26m for another on the road, spanning 933 sqm.

Also two years ago, Mr Palmer bought a Mermaid Beach home on Albatross Ave.

Once owned by V8 Supercars racer Paul Weel, it cost $16.5m.

Mermaid Beach is about six kilometres north of Surfers Paradise.
