Bill McNee lists swank $30m Melbourne home

The Murphy Street home replaced a 14-unit block of flats.

Property developer and investor Bill McNee is quietly upgrading from his $30 million South Yarra mansion.

The South Yarra home has a $27-$29.5 million guide.

The executive is believed to be paying $50 million for a 6336 square metre Toorak estate held for five decades and expanded by the late Marc and Eva Besen, at the north east corner of Lansell and Tahara roads.

A new build is rumoured.

The fully leased St Germain office was offered for sale last month.

The deal comes two weeks since we reported Mr McNee’s Vicland listed the suburb’s recently completed St Germain office complex, on Toorak Road, with c$200m price hopes.

Cushman & Wakefield’s Daniel WolmanNick Rathgeber, Leigh Melbourne, Oliver Hay, Mark Hansen and Leon Ma are the agents.

South Yarra home replaced apartment block

The Besen estate deal comes five years since Mr McNee completed a Powell & Glenn designed five bedroom, six bathroom home with a pool on the site of a 14-unit block of flats at 47 Murphy Street, South Yarra.

That dwelling has now been listed via Kay & Burton’s Nick Kenyon and Ross Savas with a $27.5-$29.5m guide.

Coincidentally, Kay & Burton is a key St Germain tenant.

A walk in wardrobe and wine cellar at 47 Murphy Street.

“For those who value wellness and rejuvenation, the [Murphy St] residence features a private health retreat incorporating a sauna, steam room, and plunge pool/spa tranquil sanctuary within your own home,” the brokers said.

The Marne Street property is for sale asking over $35 million.

It is also designed with a gym, wine cellar with bar – able to accommodate large scale entertaining – and dedicated cinema and billiards rooms.

Part of the dwelling is configured as a self-contained one bedroom apartment.

There is also a six car garage.

Mr Kenyon and Mr Savas will close an expressions of interest campaign next month.

Also at the moment, arts patron Jennifer Shaw is offering a 1930s five bedroom home in the suburb, 28 Marne St, with a $35-$38m guide.

Marshall White’s Marcus Chiminello has that listing.
