Kmart commits to 100,000 sqm distribution centre

The proposed Kmart and Target facility at Moorebank.

Kmart Group has pre-committed to a 100,000 square metre omnichannel fulfilment centre in Sydney’s west.

The Moorebank estate will house 12 tenants – Kmart Group amongst them.

ESR will deliver the c$500 million complex, part of its Moorebank Intermodal Precinct, which is intended to contain c850,000 sqm and house 12 tenants.

Completion is scheduled at the end of 2027.

The distribution centre will service both Kmart and Target.

“The facility will transform Kmart Group’s supply chain in New South Wales through a modern omnichannel fulfilment capability,” Kmart and Target chief executive officer, John Gualtierei, said.

“By modernising our fulfilment capabilities, we’re increasing speed, efficiency and flexibility across our network,” he added.

“Ultimately, this is about delivering even more value to our customers, which is central to who we are,” according to the executive.

Coincidentally LOGOS, which ESR now controls, bought a Kmart occupied distribution centre in Melbourne’s Truganina (pictured, top), in 2018, outlaying $119m.

The Moorebank deal comes two months since Dexus paid Qube c$200m for an 11.2ha piece of a Minto intermodal facility.
