ABC lists vacant Elsternwick studio

Part of the 1.17ha Elsternwick site could make way for eight storey buildings.

Postscript: this property sold to a developer for c$30m in late June, 2021.

The Australian Broadcasting Corporation has listed its Elsternwick studio with vacant possession.

The 1.17 hectare plot at 8 Gordon Street could sell for more than $20 million according to sources.

Savills’ Clinton Baxter, Nick Peden and Jesse Radisich say it would suit builders; zoned Residential Growth, part of it can make way for eight levels.

Development outcomes include apartments, offices, aged care and social infrastructure, they added.

The listing comes three years since the ABC ceased production there and relocated to Southbank.

In 2017 the media outlet sold a nearby Selwyn St studio to Woolworths for c$45m.

Three months ago, Lendlease started building a nine level Over-55s village on part of Channel Nine’s former Bendigo St, Richmond, parcel, which it acquired for $52m in 2009 (story continues below).

Countdown, The Big Gig, Seachange, and more recently, Mad as Hell, were filmed 8 Gordon St.

“This site will undoubtedly attract international attention by virtue of it being the most significant inner-Melbourne site to be offered to the market in 2021,” Mr Baxter said.

“There simply isn’t another site of such magnitude and offering a unique array of amenity and positive attributes within the inner suburbs of Melbourne,” he added.

“This is one of those exceptional properties that very rarely hits the market offering all of the attributes for a successful redevelopment.

“In this case favourable Residential Growth zoning, abundant surrounding amenity including retail, public transport, bay beaches, and numerous prestigious schools, coupled with stunning views across the adjoining Rippon Lea Gardens”.
