Aldi to Build 500 More Australian Stores

AldiGERMAN supermarket giant Aldi plans to open about 500 new supermarkets on Australia’s east coast, bringing its national total to more than 700.

In Victoria, new supermarkets are earmarked for Abbotsford, Albury, Caroline Springs, Maryborough and Strathdale. By the end of the year, the state will have 75 Aldi supermarkets, up from 69 now. It’s been reported new stores are also earmarked for Geelong’s Newcomb, Hamilton, Horsham, Morwell, Preston, Sebastapol, Swan Hill and Warragul.

Australia’s Largest Homemaker Centre Set to be Developed in Springvale, Melbourne

AUSTRALIA’s biggest Homemaker Centre will be developed in the outer south-east suburb of Melbourne, not far from Autralia’s biggest shopping centre, Chadstone.

The 80,000 square metre $286 million facility will include about 20 stores including Melbourne’s second IKEA, and a Harvey Norman store.

The project was “called in” – effectively approved – by the Planning Minister Justin Madden last Friday, along with a 38-level apartment building and hotel in Box Hill, and another apartment tower in Southbank.

Madden to Decide on Maffra Shortly

PLANNING Minister Justin Madden is expected to make a decision “shortly” about a controversial $13.8 million shopping centre development in the eastern Victorian town of Maffra.
 
A spokeswoman for the Minister’s spokeswoman said submissions have been heard and a decision will be made about Woolworth’s application to build a 2,300 square metre retail building on a site at 93 – 105 Johnson Street.
