Assemble rolls out charging stations across 800 BTRTO homes

The Footscray project will contain 475 dwellings in five buildings.

Assemble Developments is adding electric vehicle charging to more than 800 build-to-rent-to-own homes across two Melbourne projects.

The housing group has appointed NOX Energy to provide charging at developments in Coburg (pictured, top) and Footscray, taking the energy technology company’s Melbourne network to six apartment communities and nearly 1,900 homes.

The Coburg project will contain c330 units.

NOX Energy said charging was already operational across four established apartment communities in Kensington and Brunswick, with the Footscray and Coburg installations being delivered as the new buildings approach completion.

The system combines shared Intelligent Power Sockets with 7kW chargers, managed through NOX Energy’s cloud-based platform and app.

The model allows residents to charge at home without installing a private charger, which can be difficult for apartment renters who do not own their parking spaces.

Accessible charging

Assemble focuses on housing designed to attract institutional investment, with an emphasis on homes for low- and middle-income households.

The Footscray project at 11 Whitehall Street will contain 475 dwellings across five buildings (continues below).

It is set to open early next year.

The property was formerly Ryco’s local headquarters.

The Coburg complex at 519 Sydney Road contains c325 apartments.

Set to open next month, it has been replacing a long-vacant block opposite the Pentridge project, near the corner of Bell St.

NOX Energy chief operating officer Charlie Richardson said the expansion would make home charging accessible to more apartment residents.

The rollout extends the company’s residential charging to new developments. It had previously worked on established complexes.
