TWENTY years after being diagnosed with breast cancer, Australian entertainer Olivia Newton-John opened a landmark rehabilitation centre in Melbourne’s north-east this month (pictured, far right).

Olivia Newton-John thanked the Baillieu Liberal government for finalising funding for the $189 million Olivia Newton-John Cancer and Wellness Centre, which includes day and radiation oncology and complementary therapies such as acupuncture, massage, yoga, meditation and homeopathy.

Australian Unity to Sell $19 Million Prahran Properties

AUSTRALIAN Unity is offloading one of its most prized located medical centres in Prahran, just 200 metres from retail mecca Chapel Street.

The Victoria House Medical Centre and Victoria Clinic complexes, between 314 – 324 Malvern Road, are spread across 5939 square metres of land, most of which is zoned Residential 1.

The asset will be sold with leases in place to six tenants. Leading private healthcare group Healthscope is committed to the site until 2018.

DEVELOPERS might not have to wait much longer to get their hands on one what has for years been one of Melbourne’s most anticipated building blocks.

Sources are confident hospital Peter MacCallum Cancer Institute is one of the sickbays expected to “sell surplus property” ahead of a move to the new $1 billion Victorian Comprehensive Cancer Clinic, which is under construction at the top of the Haymarket roundabout in Carlton.

The former Royal Dental Hospital, which stood on a portion of what will be the new Victorian CCC, was demolished in August last year. The new centre is scheduled to open in 2015.

$100 Million Darlinghurst Cancer Centre Objected by Lord Mayor

PLANS to build a $100 million cancer centre in Sydney’s ritzy inner-eastern suburb of Darlinghust are in jeopardy, after a group of local residents and Lord Mayor Clover Moore, said the development would “cannibalise” their suburb.

Mr Moore said the proposed 11-storey building – which was launched by singer Delta Goodrem last October – risks blocking sunlight to nearby homes, and will also cause traffic chaos.

Private Sector to Develop Melbourne’s Next Hospital

50 Burwood Road, HawthornMELBOURNE’s next hospital and major medical clinic will be developed by the private sector in Hawthorn.

The City of Boroondara council has issued a permit allowing for the former VECCHI building at 50 Burwood Road to be converted from offices into a 40-bed hospital, and associated medical centre allowing up to 15 practitioners.

Sydney-based Healthbridge, a health based fund of manager Ironbridge, outmuscled several residential property developers to buy the prominent Hawthorn site for $17.1 million in April. It struck a deal to relocate the office tenants that were still based at the office, while pushing its conversion plans with council.

ING Real Estate Healthcare Makes Huge Profit Selling Half Interest in East Melbourne Hospital For $14 Million.

ING Real Estate Healthcare Fund (IHF) has made $14 million from the sale of a half share freehold interest, in the Epworth Freemasons Private Hospital in Clarendon Street, East Melbourne.

The Epworth Foundation (Epworth), which has been a tenant in the building, has bought the other half, at the buildings December 31 2009 book value.
