Planning minister signs off on six building Docklands project

Planning minister Sonya Kilkenny has given Lendlease the green light to develop the last three buildings at its prominent Collins Wharf project between Victoria Harbour and the Yarra River, in Docklands.
Two towers will rise 29 levels – one with 349 units, penned by Ewart Leaf & Kennon, to be known as Collins Wharf 4.
The other, containing 375, designed by Architectus, will be branded Collins Wharf 5.
The final building, closest to Bolte Bridge, again penned by Architectus, to be named Collins Wharf 6, will be 16 storeys with 191 apartments.
The structures will rise over a four floor podium with townhouses and car parking.
Lendlease must also develop a 1500 sqm park – it is planning timber lounges and native plantings around a central lawn, all with Yarra River views.
One down, five to go
Collins Wharf is directly west of Lendlease’s Victoria Harbour precinct, which connects to Wurundjeri Way.
With Ms Kilkenny’s approval the six towers earmarked for Collins Wharf will be developed in stages over the decade.
To date, only one complex has been built – No 1 Collins Wharf, rising 29 levels, opened in 2019.
A second building, Regatta, with 317 flats again over 29 storeys, has been marketed for pre-sale this year.
With construction recently commencing, it is expected to open in 2026 (story continues below).
A third tower, Ancora, with 303 apartments again over 29 floors, should be complete the following year, a Lendlease spokesperson said.
Including the towers approved this week, Collins Wharf and Victoria Harbour should contain c5000 dwellings.
Combined with another Lendlease project at Docklands, Melbourne Quarter, the developer will deliver a total of about 6500 residences to the area.
915 dwellings approved
The Kilkenny approval affects the last two of six Collins Wharf sites – 989-1009 and 1013-1055 Collins St.
The three towers will include a total c481 car parks.
“Collins Wharf reflects our commitment to deliver high quality housing in prime Melbourne locations and this approval enables over 915 new homes and public spaces to complete this highly sought after precinct,” Lendlease executive director, Development, Daniel Dugina, said.
“The approval of the final stage of Collins Wharf will support the ongoing demand we are experiencing in the area as buyers seek opportunities to live near some of the world’s best food, arts, sports and entertainment in Melbourne while enjoying a waterfront lifestyle,” he added.
Also today we are reporting Ms Kilkenny approved a Glen Iris project proposed by Woolworths and Time & Place.
