Vale Gerald Rawson

Gerald Rawson, who co-founded Burgess Rawson in 1975 and remained active in the property industry after selling the business in 2012, has died.

Alongside long-time business partner Chris Burgess, the executive built one of Australia’s higher profile private commercial property agencies – a significant player in sales, leasing and management.

Former Burgess Rawson partner Ingrid Filmer said “he believed in straight talk, bold decisions and backing people he believed in”.

“Gerald could be challenging, demanding, inspiring and hilarious, sometimes all within the same conversation,” she added (continues below).

“He had a way of drawing you into his thinking…he could see opportunities and possibilities long before most of us could and he challenged people to think bigger than they thought possible,” according to the executive.

Ms Filmer said her ex-colleague played a defining role in her career after inviting her to become a partner in 2007, adding that he taught her “how to think strategically”.

Burgess Rawson was bought by CBRE a year ago this week.
