Noodle maker seals site for first Australian manufacturing plant
Brookfield Properties has announced another deal at what will be one of Cardinia’s biggest business parks, at Pakenham.
Ballarat Food Manufacturing, a subsidiary of China based Yida Group, has pre-committed to a 14,660 square metre piece of the 25 hectare Cardinia Logistics Estate – to produce instant noodles.
It will be the company’s first Australian manufacturing plant.
The initial lease term is five years from when construction is complete in about eight months.
The deal comes nearly a year since it was reported Brookfield sold Costco a 6.2ha piece of the business park, for a store.
Noodle plant plannned
Canada based Brookfield paid $94 million in 2022 for the land making way for the estate, 60 and 130 Greenhills roads.
They applied to build 11 months ago; with a c$600m end value, about 185,000 square metres is expected in 32 buildings, between 3000-20,000 sqm, and clearances up to 13.7 metres.
Stage one, with about 56,000 sqm in nine improvements, affects #60.
“Recent deals with both Ballarat Food Manufacturing and Costco demonstrates the strong appetite for space in Melbourne’s south east industrial corridor by global brands,” Brookfield senior vice president, Will Green, said.
“Cardinia Logistic Estate has been strategically designed to maximise flexibility or its partners making it suitable for specialised manufacturing with access to high power, natural gas and cranes,” he added.
About 640 sqm of the BFM tenancy will be configures as offices.
“Ballarat Food Group is aiming to produce Australia’s first locally made instant noodles using high quality and healthy ingredients such as premium Australian wheat, beef and seafood,” founder and director, Zhong Chen, said.
“Aiming to offer a nutritious alternative to existing products, the company will promote this proudly Australian brand worldwide showcasing local produce on the global stage,” he added.
