NIT Australia leases Melbourne campus

NIT Australia has leased a space at 335 Flinders Lane.

The Australian National Institute of Technology, which provides courses that can establish or advance careers in sectors including business, civil construction and information technology, will expand into Victoria after leasing a Melbourne CBD base.

Also known as NIT Australia, the Perth based group will set up at a 295 square metre campus in a warehouse converted office at 335 Flinders Lane, between Queen and Elizabeth streets.

Justin Hemmes purchased Tomasetti House in 2021.

The agreement is for an initial three years with starting annual rent at $545 per sqm.

JLL’s Sam Friend was the agent.

The adult education sector has been booming since overseas travel was allowed again last year.

Last September, an Adelaide education group paid $6 million for a South Melbourne office it plans to occupy longer term.

Also last year, a Melbourne based school acquired a four storey Gold Coast commercial building to use for a campus, outlaying $15m.

Another Flinders Lane deal

Elsewhere in Flinders Ln, on the block east of Elizabeth St, the historic Tomasetti House sold in 2021 to Justin Hemmes’ Merivale, which intends to occupy.

Also two years ago, Jackalope Hotel founder Louis Li paid c$25m for a mid-rise warehouse converted office at 175 Flinders Ln, next door to the Maria George building, which he has held since 2018 (story continues below).

Rodd & Gunn recently moved its headquarters from Prahran to Manchester House.

Several small office lease deals have recently been sealed in the street including, last month, Principals committing to 345 sqm at #333.

The design firm is paying starting annual rent of $670 per sqm for its newly renovated space.

It will relocate from Hardware Ln.

Last November, meanwhile, Gemba leased 365 sqm at Carlow House, at 289 Flinders Ln, at the south east corner of Elizabeth St.

The sport and entertainment strategist relocated from Southbank.

Mr Friend negotiated both deals, the latter with colleague Hannah O’Brien and Colliers’ Izabella Minas.

In 2021, meanwhile, Rodd & Gunn signed a five year lease for a 590 sqm portion of the c1911 Manchester House, at 234 Flinders Ln, for its headquarters – moving from Prahran.

Its new landlord is the Melbourne Theosophical Society.
