Tweed Heads’ Cobaki Lakes construction nearer

A major housing estate near the New South Wales/Queensland border is closer to starting with NSW Planning Minister Tony Kelly approved “concept plans” this month.

Cobaki Lakes – a new suburb near Tweed Heads – will eventually accommodate 12,000 people.

About 5500 dwellings will replace the 594 hectare parcel.

Another major redevelopment was was proposed in the 1980s.

If approved this time around, building could start by mid 2011, Mr Ell told the AFR.

More than 30ha will be allocated for sports fields.

Another 100ha could be set aside for conservation purposes.
