IKEA to open at Campbellfield’s Pipeworks Market

Victorian planning minister Justin Madden has rezoned Campbellfield’s Pipeworks Market and approved a permit paving the way for site owner, Swedish furniture giant IKEA, to open a store there.

The proposed 41,000 square metre outlet would be the group’s biggest in Australia.

In Melbourne, IKEA trades from Victoria Gardens in Richmond and is building another store in Springvale.

In the 1990s it had three Melbourne stores, including in Moorabbin, not far from the one it is constructing (story continues below).

The Campbellfield IKEA is set to be built at 400 Mahoneys Road from the middle of next year, and open by mid-2012.
