Car Park Cafe Owner Buys Observatory Cafe, Royal Botanic Gardens

The 350-seat Observatory Cafe, abutting the Royal Botanic Gardens and next to the observ-atory buildings, has been sold to Mr Koumantakis and will include new indoor and outdoor entertaining areas.

Mr Koumantakis, who owns the popular Car Park cafes in Camberwell and Kew, will refur-bish the historic building into a trendy restaurant and function centre. An outdoor kiosk will be turned into a bar, in the style of the popular Belgian Beer Garden in St Kilda.

John H Castran agent Grita Angelucci sold the Observatory Cafe but declined to comment when contacted by Capital Gain.

It was sold by owner Pitzy Folk, who founded Map Coffee and is based in South Melbourne. Mr Folk was unavailable for comment.
