Victoria Street Richmond Shopping Strip Set for Rejuvenation

Private developer Ben Genser, through his development company A. Genser and Associates, this month cleared a 5000 sq m site at the corner of Victoria and Nicholson streets. He is planning a shopping centre, anchored by an Aldi supermarket and with about 15 speciality shops.

In one of the first retail developments of its type in Melbourne, the shopping centre’s top floors – the building may have five levels – will include townhouses and apartments.

The unnamed development is between the Lygon Court shopping centre in Carlton and the larger Victoria Gardens at the corner of Victoria and Burnley streets, Richmond. The centre should be open by next August and have a value of more than $50 million, sources said.

Another shopping centre in the area, Richmond Plaza, on the corner of Bridge Road and Church Street, is owned by directors from middle-tier agency Burgess Rawson.
