Australia Post to develop six regional distribution centres
Australia Post is set to develop distribution centres on six regional New South Wales site it owns.
The group is also in negotiations to buy another block for an asset of this type – at Narrandera.
It also intends to rent to brownfield sites in the state for warehouses – at Ballina and Cooma – part of plans to improve delivery services outside of Sydney’s metropolitan area.
“In New South Wales, we’ve seen online purchases increase by 2.8 per cent year on year with data indicating that 82pc of NSW households are now shopping online,” Australia Post general manager, Network Development and Support Services, Shane Plant, said.
“As regional areas increasingly depend on eCommerce due to fewer physical retail offerings, these purpose-built sites will enable Australia Post to meet the growing parcel demand in these regions,” he added.
“Beyond speed and efficiency, we’re focused on providing safer workplaces for our team members and building environmentally responsible infrastructure that can serve communities well into the future,” according to the executive.
Where and when
Building has commenced at one of the six sites, at Tamut – a 600 square metre complex is set to open later this year.
Construction on blocks at Casino (spreading 1350sqm), Deniliquin (1335 sqm), Forbes (1796 sqm) and Leeton (1105 sqm) should start and end next year.
An enormous Byron Bay parcel – 3072 sqm – will be replaced with a complex opening in 2027.
