Another Glen Waverley high rise planned

The proposed building, looking north from Springvale Road.

Plans have been lodged for a 21 storey apartment complex near The Glen shopping centre.

The proposal would contain 147 dwellings – the bulk (122) which will be configured with two bedrooms.

Three levels of retail would contain 1832 square metres.

It also includes six retail tenancies over three floors – a total of 1832 square metres.

A four level basement is designed with 167 car parks.

The project is earmarked for a 1549 sqm Commercial 1 zoned block, 251-261 Springvale Road, which the developer, Hongxing, acquired for c$18 million in late 2017.

Development hotspot

The proposed Springvale Rd building would back onto the 15 level Galleria – which when it was conceived seven years ago, was Glen Waverley’s tallest tower.

That project made headlines when agents took a $2500 deposit from prospective suitors, allowing them to bid on the first 100 dwellings (story continues below).

The 251-261 Springvale Road block (shaded) sold for c$18 million in 2017.

Those residences then sold out in 90 minutes.

Earlier this year, Golden Age Group completed its $450m Sky Garden – with three residential buildings – on airspace over The Glen.

The upper levels of the proposed tower.

Its highest building, Azalea, or Tower A, rises 18 storeys.

In June we reported a developer paid $11.5m for a nearby Glen Waverley development site permit-ready for a four floor complex with 11 flats and six townhouses.

The City of Monash is expected to decide on 251-261 Springvale Rd next year.
