$180m Isle of Wight development imminent

Information, including about the delivery time, of a $180 million resort and convention centre on the Isle of Wight hotel site opposite Cowes Jetty at Phillip Island should be revealed by summer.

Land owner and operator David Gearing said he has now secured a joint-venture partner to replace the c9000 sqm site with a 255-room hotel, function centre, wellbeing complex, shops and gaming.

The project would include private apartments too.

The publican three years ago won a lengthy planning battle with the Bass Coast Shire Council to rebuild the site (story continues below).

Mr Gearing’s family has owned the property since 1982; it earmarked another redevelopment plan before this one.

Earlier this year, the Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal rejected an application by Lindsay Fox to build a $300m golf course based resort at the southern end of Phillip Island, between his grand prix track and Pyramid Rock.
