Victorian Councils Added to the List of Carbon Tax Payers

It is argued the economic pain of the tax is unnecessary because pollution will be moved offshore – meaning no environment benefit. The tax will however help boost the ALP government coffers after several years of misspending and overspending.

Unless they can raise capital in other ways including selling assets, councils will pass the tax onto ratepayers.

This month the mayor of Australia’s biggest council, Brisbane, estimated the carbon tax will add about $22 to the cost of every ratepayers bill next financial year.
