Producer Tom Burstall and his actress wife, Sigrid Thornton, have listed their distinctive North Melbourne home, ending 45 years opposite Pleasance Gardens.

Four Carroll Street was incorporated with the neighbouring property 30 years ago.

The pair can expect over $4 million for 2-4 Carroll Street, on 421 square metres at the north east corner of Canning.

The dwelling includes a c1880s ex-Melbourne Board of Works building and stables – #2 – which the couple converted into a two bedroom residence.

This component features the distinctive Maison Marnay Brandy sign, opposite the small park.

It cost $30,000.

In 1991, the entertainers outlaid $153,000 for the neighbouring single fronted terrace, adding another three bedrooms – one of which is fit out as a sitting room and the other, a study (story continues below).

A library overlooks a north facing courtyard garden.

That building also contains a large library with views over a north facing courtyard garden.

The dwellings cover 421 square metres.

The refurbishment retains original features including stone and wood finished fixtures and fittings, fireplaces, architraves and timber floors.

Nelson Alexander’s Nicholas West and Stephanie Hawke will auction it on October 22.

The vendors are downsizing.
