Tassie car dealer ends Melbourne Airport hotel plan

The office fronts Mickleham Road near the Tullamarine Freeway.

A 95 year old Tasmanian motor group has snapped up a Tullamarine site until recently earmarked for a hotel.

JMC Automotive is paying $3 million for 1-3 Freight Road, which fronts Mickleham Rd near the Tullamarine Freeway.

The dealership will occupy; the 1066 square metre block contains a multi-level office and warehouse accessed by three crossovers.

It isn’t far from The Age former print press at Westmeadows – now a Zagami Automotive used car dealership.

JLL’s Anthony Cannizzaro marketed 1-3 Freight Rd which was previously permitted for a six-storey hotel with 66-suites and open-to-the-public busines centre, café and gym (story continues below).

JMC Automotive entered the Victorian market four years ago with the acquisition of Heidelberg and Preston Mitsubishi dealerships.

The Tullamarine property is near the southern tip of Melbourne Airport’s c2740 hectare holding which has in recent years been replaced with warehouse investments.

It is also near Leo Dineen Reserve – home to Melbourne Airport Club since it left airport grounds in 2017 so its clubroom could make way for URBNSURF.
