Qld Building Wins National Top Honour
Earlier in the evening, Riparian Plaza won the National Award for Innovation and Excellence in Mixed Use Development. This award was open to inspiring developments that exhibited innovation and excellence in design and development of a building of at least three substantive uses.
Riparian Plaza went on to surpass a distinguished field of 12 category award winners to take out the top honours of the evening. Previous winners of the prestigious Property Council of Australia/Rider Levett Bucknall Award include the Renzo Piano designed Aurora Place and last year’s winner, the Norman Foster designed Deuschte Bank Place.
Mr Scott Collins, Director of Bloomberg Incorporation Limited (owner and developer of Riparian Plaza) said, “Winning the Property Council of Australia / Rider Levett Bucknall Award was a befitting reward for everyone that has contributed to the design, development and management of Riparian Plaza.”
“Riparian Plaza created a new genre of building which challenged the city of Brisbane to embrace a progressive new concept of development. In this regard it is very satisfying to witness not only the commercial success of the building but also to receive the recognition of our industry.” said Mr Collins.
Designed as a premium mixed use development, Riparian Plaza’s success has evolved from the economic advantage of generating revenue from two distinct and separate markets. Notwithstanding fluctuating market conditions, residential price growth continues to be supported by a strong demand specific to Riparian Plaza. During 2007, the residential apartments at Riparian Plaza recorded a resale median capital growth of 24.8%. Riparian Plaza has been one of the top 10 performers in Australia each year since 2005.
Riparian Plaza’s Premium Grade office accommodation was fully leased at the time of completion to a diversified mix of high profile tenants including Clayton Utz, KPMG, BHP Billiton and Wilson HTM. Riparian Plaza established and continues to create new rental benchmarks for the city of Brisbane in respect to commercial office rents.
The recent awards from the Property Council of Australia are the latest in a string of prestigious local, state and national awards collected by Riparian Plaza in the past 12 months. In late 2007, Riparian Plaza was the recipient of the National Commercial Architecture Award from the Royal Australian Institute of Architects (RAIA).
The Property Council of Australia / Rider Levett Bucknall Awards recognizes the outstanding achievements of 97 finalists from all around Australia across 13 award categories. The developments showcased represent outstanding examples of the property industry’s commitment to creating strong community links and vibrant places for people to live, work and play.
