BEKL founder and chairman Hanbiao Liu died on Saturday.

The executive – the L in BEKL, a developer and investment house nowadays run by his daughters, Eva and Katherine – will be celebrated at a service Sunday, midday, at Altona Memorial Park.

A gathering is scheduled at 1:30pm at Docklands’ Gold Leaf, after a funeral.

BEKL has been establishing a local property portfolio since before COVID; its book includes the ex-Geelong Conference Centre, now a high-end resort, and a Southbank site, where an IHG hotel was proposed.

“Mr Liu was more than just a founder; he was a visionary, a strategist, and a formidable force behind countless successes,” a company spokesperson said.

“His relentless pursuit of excellence, coupled with an unwavering hunger for innovation, transformed the world of property development,” they added.

“From the humble beginnings of a remote village in Guangdong, his earnest faith in the power of education paved the way for a future that went far beyond the borders of China,” according to the representative (continues below).

“He fearlessly ventured into China’s opening markets, created thriving communities, headed numerous companies, and built a legacy that will continue to flourish for generations across China, Japan and Australia.

Beyond his professional success, Mr. Liu was a loving husband, a nurturing father, and a doting grandfather.

“He believed in the importance of family and instilled in us values of unity, resilience and thirst for knowledge.

“His legacy of family bonds and togetherness will forever remain in our hearts. He passed away peacefully surrounded by his wife, children and family.

“As we bid farewell to Mr. Liu, we are reminded of his favourite saying: “时间就是金钱,效率就是生命” (“Time is money, efficiency is life”)”.
