Montalto family snap up strategic block

Peet is planning about 5000 dwellings on a Donnybrook site it agreed to acquire from the Montalto family eight years ago.

Floridia Cheese owner the Montalto family has snapped up a Green Wedge zoned block near parcels affected by the Shenstone Park, Wollert and Woodstock precinct structure plans.

The 219 hectare property – 795 Epping Road, Wollert and 825 Epping Rd, Woodstock, is costing about $15 million, according to sources.

It is presently utilised for farming – though the zoning allows for alternative commercial uses.

Longer term – with housing estates and major road infrastructure set to be developed around it – the sites could be re-gazetted to allow for residential.

The Montaltos are significant land owners in Melbourne’s north (story continues below).

In 2013, the group agreed to sell a 264ha Donnybrook block to Peet for c$353m – a hefty rise on the c$1m it paid nine years earlier when the property was zoned Green Wedge.

That parcel is now making way for the Peppercorn Hill housing estate.

LAWD’s Paul Callanan, Darcy Tobin and Peter Sagar marketed 795 and 825 Epping Rd.
