Maribyrnong Ammunition Factory to Become Melbourne’s Newest Suburb

A $1 billion housing estate, with commercial and retail space is mooted for a former Department of Defence Ammunition factory, in Maribyrnong, on land between the massive Highpoint Shopping Centre, and the suburb border of Essendon.

The area is currently classified as Maribyrnong, however the government has indicated it will rename the project, which is expected to create 3000 new dwellings.

New housing estates have progressively been released around the Maribyrnong are over the last decade.

The Victorian government developer VicUrban will work with the private sector to develop the Ammunition factory site.

The Department of Defence has begun extensive remediation of the property, which it has used for more than 100 years.
