The facility will open at 360 Victoria Street – the site of the former Green Park Hotel.

With walk-in, early intervention services for people experiencing mental health and social challenges, it will be staffed by clinicians, counsellors, social workers and peer support workers.

Services will cover mental health and alcohol and drug addiction support

Care for people experiencing homelessness will also be provided, the property acting as a gateway to St Vincent’s broader range of facilities.

St Vincent’s paid $8.25m for the site in 2020 with plans for the complex.

Urban Health Hub

The Urban Health Hub will operate beyond standard and outpatient hours including evenings and weekends

Programs will include the Safe Haven Café, a peer-led initiative for individuals experiencing emotional distress (continues below).

Co-designed with input from people who have lived experience of mental ill health, it is expected to reduce emergency department presentations by up to 3000 cases annually.

St Vincent’s chief executive officer, Anna McFadgen, said the site has been part of the Darlinghurst community for decades and the project builds on the hospital’s long-standing mission of supporting vulnerable populations.

Goodman Foundation chair Alison Brink added the donation reflects the foundation’s focus on improving access to mental health infrastructure and services in urban areas.

The donation is through the St Vincent’s Curran Foundation which raises funds for the group’s New South Wales portfolio.

St Vincent’s Hospital Sydney is owned and operated by St Vincent’s Health Australia under the Trustees of Mary Aikenhead Ministries.

The land is held by statutory trustees for the hospital’s purposes under NSW law.
