Salta secures Nando’s to HQ, restaurant

Celebrity chef Gary Mehigan once ran Fenix at the Nando’s space.

Nando’s has relocated its headquarters within Melbourne’s inner east after striking a 10 year deal with Salta.

The Richmond Nando’s overlooks the Main Yarra Trail.

The South African born, Portuguese chicken themed restaurant will occupy 1000 square metres over two floors at 678 Victoria Street, Richmond – a mixed-use investment facing the Yarra River, also one of the first commercial buildings in the Victoria Garden development, which includes a shopping centre.

The eatery – once occupying Gary Mehigan’s exclusive Fenix – runs over both levels.

Part of the area will dub as Nando’s headquarters.

Another high profile office tenant

Nando’s Australia and New Zealand was previously at 40 Mollison Street in the neighbouring Abbotsford.

With almost 200 restaurants (about 137 in Australia), it recently announced plans to boost its ANZ book with seven venues (including Richmond) in the next year rising to 25 before the end of 2027 and 70 by 2030 (story continues below).

Most of Victoria Gardens is replacing an ex-Melbourne Fire Brigade site.

Salta has developed several Victoria Gardens offices.

Ansell, Fonterra, Ford and Swatch are amongst other high-profile occupiers.

“The precinct is increasingly being recognised as a great place to work and live thanks to its central location close to the CBD,” Salta director of Asset Management, Melissa Kidd, said.

The landlord with Vicinity Centres was recently approved to add hundreds of apartments to the site, beside the shopping centre, which will also be extended.

This pocket of Richmond, with the Yarra River the Hawthorn border, is about five kilometres from the CBD.
