Ex-AFL chief lists renovated Melbourne mansion

Alex Demetriou and Symone Richards bought the Toorak home in 2007.

Former AFL chief executive officer Andrew Demetriou and his wife, Symone Richards, have listed their 1930s Marcus Martin designed home.

The home has undergone a David Hicks renovation.

The pair are expecting $15-$16.5 million for 5 Tyalla Crescent, Toorak.

The Tyalla Crescent home pre-renovation.

They paid $6.775m in December, 2007 – just into the Global Financial Crisis.

Recently the mansion underwent a swank David Hicks renovation.

Sotheby’s International Realty’s Antoinette Nido and Max Ruttner are the agents.

The listing comes three years since another ex-AFL CEO, Gillon McLachlan, paid $13.5m for a historic Prahran East home – an upsize from a contemporary dwelling around the corner in the suburb, sold in 2023 for $8m – a $3m discount.

Six bedrooms, three studies

Spreading 616 square metres – or 66 square – 5 Tyalla Cr contains six bedrooms and three studies.

More than $15 million is expected for 5 Tyalla Crescent.

There is also a six car garage adding 123 sqm.

The site covers 1066 sqm with a pool and garden with firepit.

The pocket is walking distance to Heyington station, St Catherine’s and Scotch College, the agents said.

Mr Demetriou quit as AFL CEO in 2014 after 11 years.

Toorak, Melbourne’s most expensive suburb measured by median house value, is six kilometres south east of the CBD.
