Guzman y Gomez is the latest fast food chain to choose Melbourne’s inner east for a base.

The Mexican restaurant has chosen Abbotsford’s Craftworks building, which opened last year in place of a warehouse once home to Rove McManus’ Roving Enterprises.

Bayley Stuart Capital is the landlord; for a syndicate, it paid $86m for 20-30 Mollison St in 2021.

Cushman & Wakefield’s Jake Patterson and Vincent Tran are managing the leasing campaign.

Their deal comes a week since we reported South Africa based, Portuguese chicken themed chain Nando’s signed up for a Richmond headquarters, relocating from Abbotsford.

That group’s new landlord is Salta (story continues below).

Craftworks contains 9600 square metres.

GYG commits to Craftworks

Headquartered in Sydney where it was established in 2006 by New Yorkers Steven Marks and Robert Hazen, GYG trades from some 220 restaurants in Australia, Japan, Singapore and the United States.

Following the Abbotsford deal, Bayley Stuart has 950 sqm – or 10pc – to fill of the seven-level office, also with a tenant-only rooftop deck and 90 seat auditorium.

This pocket of Abbotsford is about two kilometres from the CBD.
