Prahran’s Station Hotel to be Redeveloped

George Saade, the former proprietor of Malvern drinking and dining institution Giorgio’s, and business partner David Tamir, have lodged plans to build a 7-level, 51 unit apartment building on the site, opposite the Prahran train station and on the corner of Porter Street. The redevelopment will also include shops, and a licensed bar.

Mr Saade and Mr Tamir are reported to have paid about $4.4 million for the Station Hotel in mid 2007. Because of the site’s 35 metre frontage to Greville Street, it attracted interest from plenty of developers. But there were always concerns the historic building, would have to go as part of any redevelopment.

Stonnington City Council expects to make a decision about the Station Hotel application around July.

Mr Tamir would not reveal whether the developer plans to onsell the site at 96 – 102 Greville Street, if it receives a development permit.
