Asahi pre-commits to high-tech distribution centre

The proposed Asahi facility will contain 48,500 square metres.

Asahi Beverages has pre-committed to a 48,500 square metre distribution centre at the Redbank Motorway Estate in Brisbane’s south west.

The high-tech facility (artist’s impression, top) which will be fit out with automated components including a high-speed shuttle system and robotics, will be developed and retained by Goodman.

It will not affect any of the group’s manufacturing operations.

The term is undisclosed but described as long.

“More than 97 per cent of the beverages we sell in Australia are made by us in Australia and the investment in the new Redbank distribution centre further highlights our long-term commitment to Queensland,” Asahi Beverages chief supply chain officer, Adrian Benson, said.

“This development will help Asahi simplify our warehousing and distribution network along Australia’s east coast while delivering sustainability benefits via more efficient distribution routes,” he added.

“The investment means more customers can receive our full range…with one order, one payment and delivery on one truck,” according to the executive (continues below).

The fit out will take 12 months after building is complete; the building is expected to be operational by 2028.

Uber green facility

Goodman is targeting a 5-star Green Star rating with the facility to include 1 megawatt of solar, native landscaping and 50,000 litres of rainwater collection tanks for reuse in irrigation and amenities.

Goodman chief executive officer, Jason Little, said “this site offers outstanding automation and logistics connectivity, providing the essential infrastructure needed to support Asahi’s growth and service across Queensland.”

Redbank is about 12 kilometres east of Ipswich and 28 km from Brisbane’s CBD.
