The Urban Development Institute of Australia has called for all new home buyers to receive the $14,000 government grant, in an attempt is hoped will revive the sector, and create jobs.
At the moment, the government grant is limited to first home buyers who receive $14,000 if buying an established home, rising to $21,000 for a newly built home.
The UDIA poinetd to federal government figures pointing to an undersupply of about 80,000 homes nationally.
The UDIA, like several developers, has also called for the first home owners grant to be extended beyond June 30. Many market commentators expect the grant to continue beyond the economic downturn.
