Zaha Hadid Architects has released an animation showing how a proposed Melbourne CBD tower which will contain a Mandarin Oriental Hotel will look upon completion in 2023.

The distinctive 54-level building was approved by Victoria’s Planning Minister Richard Wynne last year despite it failing to meet planning controls his government introduced.

The 196-key hotel is earmarked for the lower levels of the proposed building set to start construction at 582-606 (commonly known as 600) Collins Street. The complex will contain a total of 420 dwellings and 10,000 square metres of office and retail space. The Henkell Brothers sold the site in 2015 to an offshore developer who proposed the project. For decades the address has accommodated a low-rise office with ground floor retail.

Respected architect Dame Zaha Hadid oversaw the landmark Melbourne design before she unexpectedly died last year.
