Zaha Hadid Architects has released an animation showing how Australia’s first Mandarin Oriental Hotel will look upon completion in 2023.
The distinctive 54-level building earmarked for 600 Collins Street was approved by Victoria’s Planning Minister Richard Wynne last year despite it failing to meet planning controls his government introduced.
The guesthouse, with 196 suites, is designed within the lower levels of the building, now set to start construction shortly.
The project is also penned with 420 dwellings and 10,000 sqm of commercial area (story continues below).
Henkell Brothers sold the site to Landream for $60 million in 2015.
For decades prior the address has accommodated a low-rise Ermin Smrekar building.
Late architect Dame Zaha Hadid oversaw the replacement.
