Williamstown Gasometer to be Auctioned

The site has languished on the private sale market since failing to sell at auction last August, and at a much more depressed time in the Williamstown residential development site sector.

According to council the gasworks property, just behind the Coles supermarket car park, was used as a gasometer between 1945 and 1989.

Elsewhere in Williamstown, residents are fighting an apartment-based redevelopment of the former Woollen Mill site, bound by Nelson Place, Kanowna and Aitken streets.

That medium density project is proposed by Evolve Development, a private, Melbourne-based developer headed by ex Fairfax chairman Ron Walker, and Ashley Williams.
