William “Polly” Perkins Sells Bentleigh House

Woodards director John Pollard, who marketed the property, said seven bidders fought at auction for the 1950s 3-bedroom brick veneer home in Leckie Street, near Centre Road shops. Polly is moving into retirement village care.

Success seems to follow the Perkins family throughout the generations.

Polly played 178 games for Richmond Football Club between 1939 and 1949, then spent a further 28 years calling the “Around the Grounds” segment for 3AW Football.

One of his two sons, Daryl, represented Australia at the Tokyo Olympics, winning a bronze medal for tandem bike racing. The other, Colin, was a member of the 1960s band “The Gathering”.

Polly’s grandson – known to Big Brother fans as ‘Travis the Trucker’, is one of the favourites to win the Channel Ten series.
