Wayne Carey’s Former Redback Brewery, North Melbourne, to be Redeveloped Into Student Accommodation Tower

Attempts to sell the Redback as a medical suite development site were considered in about 2007, before a residential proposal was lodged with council late last year.

Castran Gilbert’s Mark Forytarz said the apartments – which are typically much smaller than a standard one-bedroom apartment – start from $159,500.

In March 2000, a pane of glass fell from a second level window of the outgoing Redback Brewery Hotel building, gashing the mouth, right cheek and neck of Carey’s former team mate and friend Anthony Stevens, who was standing on the footpath below. Stevens is reported to have lost two litres of blood.

Wayne Carey is currently seeking $3 million from the sale of a new Broadbeach Waters mansion, in Queensland, which was reportedly the scene of the riotous break-up between Wayne, and his then-fiancé, Kate Neilson, in September.
