Vale Terry “TJ” Board
Veteran real estate agent Terry “TJ” Board died last Saturday.
The founder of TJ Board & Sons was 74.
Tributes have been left for the agent: here, by Burgess Rawson, which in 2013 acquired the TJ Board & Sons business, with Mr Board as its director.
The Carlton Football Club, at which Mr Board was in the 1960s a player (specifically, a rover), has posted a detailed obituary – here.
The businessman – Terrence James Board – created his agency in 1979 – seeing a gap in the industry, being specialist hotel pub freeholds and leaseholds.
One of his first sales was the Lady Bay Hotel in his home town of Warrnambool, in the mid-1970s.
Terry was working in the commercial agency game up until recently – marketing South Melbourne’s Water Rat seven months ago.
“He literally worked on thousands of transactions with some of the largest operators in the business; to this day there would not be a hotelier who hasn’t heard of TJ Board,” a Burgess Rawson statement said.
Of the working relationship, the agency added it proved to be “colourful and rewarding” with Terry “passing on not only a breadth of depth of industry and business knowledge, but also valuable life learnings to the growing team of young directors”.
“Down to earth, Terry liked to call a spade and spade, and was highly respected as a genuine all-round good bloke with a true heart of gold”.
Mr Board was surrounded by his family at home in Warrnambool on Saturday.
His funeral will be held from 2pm tomorrow at the St Joseph’s Catholic Church in Lava Street, Warrnambool.
A wake will follow.
Mr Board is survived by three sons, Terry Junior, Peter and Michael, a daughter-in-law and three grandchildren (pictured with him, top).
