Vacant “Sofia Restaurant” Site to Become 7-Level Hotel

Plans to develop a seven-level, 82-room hotel in Camberwell’s ritzy Burke Road shopping strip have been approved by the Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal.

The hotel would be developed at 851-855 Burke Road, behind the National Trust protected red brick wall of a former State Savings Bank. The property is owned by the operators of the Sofia’s restaurant next door .

The approved building will be three to seven stories in height and include 80 basement car parks. At ground level, the new development is expected to include a hotel foyer and three shops, one of which will be the Sofia’s restaurant.
