Family ‘downsize’ to $9 million Toorak mansion

It is a downsize, Toorak-style.

A family from Melbourne’s wealthiest suburb has paid $9 million for a brand new mini-manor at 3 Stonnington Place, with 595 square metres of liveable space and a 160 sqm basement.

It will move from an even bigger family home in the area.

Marshall White’s Marcus Chiminello marketed 3 Stonnington Place for prestige builder Glenn Eagles.

The price is particularly impressive given the relatively small land component – 434 square metres.

But Stonnington Place is within a blue-ribbon belt agents call “AAA-Toorak”.

The street runs off Albany Road, considered Melbourne’s most prestigious row.

Other neighbours include the Valmorbida family, of wholesale food and coffee fame, Seek co-founder Matt Rockman, and Gerry Ryan, who established Jayco Caravans.

Mr Eagle’s construction company, Glenneagles Homes, employed architect Drew Cole to pen the Georgian-styled 3 Stonnington Place.

The dwelling includes five bedrooms, six bathrooms, a theatre room, attic, wine cellar, butler’s pantry, three lounge rooms and a four car garage.

Interior designer David Hicks was also involved in the project – his third for Glenneagles Homes.

Mr Hicks was recently appointed to design the interiors of Tim Gurner’s St Moritz development, set to replace the Novotel hotel at 14-16 Esplanade, St Kilda.

In 2013, Mr Eagles rented his then-family home in Armadale to producers of Chris Lilley’s ABC TV show Ja’mie Private School Girl, for use as the lead character’s mansion.

Mr Eagles has appointed Mr Chiminello to sell another new home, 19 Denham Place, Toorak, which is under construction next door to 3 Stonnington Place. It is also expected to sell for about $9 million following a marketing campaign scheduled to begin in July.

Toorak is considered Melbourne’s most exclusive suburb, and priciest when measured by median house value. The median price for a four-bedroom home in the suburb, according to realestate.com.au, is $4.6 million.
