Major Development Site in Canterbury’s Maling Road Hits Market

Maling Road CanterburySHOPPERS at Canterbury’s quaint Maling Road shopping strip might find it harder to snare a car park, with a number of local, interstate and international developers set to swell in the area in coming weeks.

A major 1708 square metre development site with a 57 metre frontage to Maling Road has hit the market and is expected to sell for about $4 million, and make way for a mixed use complex.

The property is being offloaded by the second generation and retiring owner of the Bradshaws of Canterbury Auto Services workshop, which has operated from 87 – 101 Maling Road for 50 years.

Michael SchildbergerTHE family home of late broadcaster and reporter Michael Schildberger has been listed for sale.

The Canterbury home served Mr Schildberger and his family for 31 years, but is being sold after the respected journalist died in June of prostate cancer, aged 72.

Forging an impressive career which saw him climb from the Channel Nine publicity department into the newsroom, Mr Schildberger is most recognised for his role as the host and executive producer of A Current Affair, and other news shows, until the late 1970s.

Another Developer Demolishes Heritage Melbourne Home, Then Lists Block For Sale

THEY came, they saw, they conquered – and now they are selling up.

The list of developers putting vacant blocks on the market after demolishing the period homes that stood there has grown.

This time, in Canterbury’s “Golden Mile”, builder AXF Developments is selling a cleared 2330 square metre site at the corner of ritzy Mont Albert Road and Wentworth Avenue.

The site will be auctioned with a permit for a medium density apartment complex.

Dry Zones Facing Extinction in Melbourne’s East

RESIDENTS in Melbourne’s ritzy east are increasingly voting to remove the “dry zone” restrictions around their streets, in what could result in the government and council putting forward a ballot, to remove these zones altogether.

The Director of Liquor Licensing, via the Victorian Electoral Commission, this week distributed ballot papers asking residents to vote for, or against, a liquor licence application at 732 Burke Road – or on the “dry side” of the popular retail strip.

Any venue in a dry zone that wishes to obtain a liquor licence needs to win approval of local residents on a case-by-case basis.
