Southgate Footbridge to Become Bar

An expression of interest campaign is being held for a unique 112 square metre island, which forms part of the bridge connecting Flinders Street Station to the Southgate entertainment complex.

Previously used as an ice creamery and cafe, council recently granted the site a permit for longer trading hours, and approved plans for glass walls, heating and a toilet facility to make it a year round venue.

Dixon Kestles director Brett Willis, who is managing the EOI campaign, said the lessor had provided consent to a liquor licence. It is expected a new venue could be trading from the bridge before the end of Summer.
