School flips historic homestead after slicing yard

The original site spread 1.23 hectares.

The exclusive Brisbane Boys’ College has sold the historic Goldicott House after slicing off a 6629 square metre chunk to extend the school.

BBC offered Goldicott House on 5711 square metres.

The heritage listed mansion at 65 Grove Crescent, Toowong, also known as Mount St Mary’s Convent, found favour with an ex-student for $8.25 million.

The proposed Goldicott House extension.

Built in 1885 and later expanded to serve as Mount Mary’s Convent, it contains nine bedrooms, four bathrooms and outbuildings including one used as a music room where Powderfinger’s Bernard Fanning was reportedly schooled.

On 5711 sqm, BBC, which charges c$31,000 for year seven students, offered it with plans for a dramatic extension.

Change of plan

Brisbane Boys’ College with the Presbyterian Methodist Schools Association paid $17m in 2022 for Goldicott House, then on 1.23 hectares.

That seller, Pikos Group, failed to push through plans to repurpose the property as a 600-resident aged care facility.

Pikos paid $8m in 2017.

Place Real Estate’s Heath Williams brokered the latest deal.

“The buyers were drawn to the character and history of the home as much as the address,” he said.

“They have a clear vision to restore it as a grand family estate, which will be a fantastic outcome for the area,” he added.

Toowong is about three kilometres south west of Brisbane’s CBD.
