$260 Million Redevelopment of Melbourne’s Windsor Hotel Has Lord Mayor Support

The hotel was until recently owned by a Melbourne consortium including nighclub owner Adam Garrison and the Halim Group. Mr Garrison sold his his interest in the development last July to Halim for an undisclosed sum. The consortium paid $37 million for the hotel site in 2005.

The Windsor Hotel building is protected by the National Trust, which has rejected the new development proposal. Chief executive Martin Purslow said the proposal is higher than an existing 19-level height restriction in the area.

Former AFL footballer turned ALPĀ Planning Minister Justin Madden will decide on the project, which will add 152 hotel rooms to the hotel’s existing 180 rooms. If approved, construction could start in 2010.
