Queensland selects partners for first Land Activation Program site
The Queensland government has selected separate parties to deliver more than 450 dwellings in the city’s north – the first project under its Land Activation Program (artist’s impression, top).
The 6.4 hectare ex-Energy Queensland site at 56 Blinzinger Road, Banyo, attracted 157 expressions of interest.
AR Development Group will build 207 townhouses.
Rockpool Holdings’ Rockpool Residential Aged Care will construct a 180-bed aged care facility.
Mission Australia Housing meanwhile will deliver 64 affordable apartments under a partnership with Economic Development Queensland.
Ray White Special Projects’ Mark Creevey, Matthew Fritzsche and Tony Williams were the agents.
Provisional Priority Development Area
Launched earlier this year the Land Activation Program aims to utilise redundant government-controlled land for housing delivery through private sector partnerships.
“When I announced this site just shy of four months ago, we were expecting 400 homes,” Deputy Premier and Minister for State Development, Infrastructure and Planning, Jarrod Bleijie, said (continues below).
“What we’ve been able to achieve with the announcement today is 450 new homes,” he added.
The land was recently declared a Provisional Priority Development Area, which the government said would streamline planning and assessment processes.
Early works were expected to begin within months, with construction to follow early next year.
The project forms the first release under the Land Activation Program, which has seen more than 21ha of public land released to market since its launch, with 3000ha of potential sites under assessment.
Also this week realestateource.com.au is reporting the Crisafulli government has offered a Gold Coast site held since the start of construction of the G:Link light rail project in 2010.
That parcel is expected to yield at least 300 apartments.
