Pace of Flemington to launch from Birdcage Enclosure this Melbourne Cup Carnival

Pace Development Group will use the upcoming Melbourne Cup Carnival to launch a 17-level apartment building earmarked for land which was until recently part of the Flemington Racecourse site.

Pace will sponsor a double storey marquee within the invitation-only Flemington Birdcage Enclosure at the event in November.

The Pace Penthouse, as it has been branded, “will bring together design, development and racing unlike ever before,” the Victorian Racing Club said in this statement.

Offering “all the extravagances you would expect from a multi-million penthouse”, the marquee will also be used to market Pace’s upcoming apartment complex, mooted for a 1.06 slice of the racetrack the developer bought off the VRC late last year.

Pace is planning a horseshoe-shaped building with 300 dwellings called Pace of Flemington (pictured, top) on the land at 550 Epsom Road. Each dwelling within the ARM Architecture designed project will include a garden terrace with views over the track.

The St Kilda based developer submitted its application for the structure to the state government in July.

“Pace is excited to add a new dimension to the Birdcage this year with an enclosure unlike anything racegoers will have seen before,” Pace Development Group’s Shane Wilkinson said. “A natural extension of our soon to be released Pace of Flemington project, the Pace Penthouse will bring architecture and design to the forefront this Melbourne Cup Carnival”.

In July, Pace paid $23.8 million for a permit-approved apartment development site in Blackburn, about 17 kilometres east of the Melbourne CBD.
