Ousted PM Malcolm Turnbull lists Canberra penthouse for sale

The former PM paid $1.8 million off-the-plan in 2006. He is seeking more than $2.5 million now.

The month after being replaced as the leader of the federal Liberal Party, Malcolm Turnbull is selling his Canberra penthouse.

The two-level dwelling offers “the most sensational views over Lake Burley Griffin” and is “lightly lived in” according to the online advertisement posted by the marketing agents, Berkely Residential’s Peter Salapatas and Bill Lyristakis.

It is expected to sell for more than $2.5 million, according to MSN, which is reporting the listing.

Mr Turnbull and his wife, Lucy, paid $1.8 million for the property off-the-plan in 2006. It was this apartment where Malcolm Turnbull lived for the first four months of his period as Prime Minister, while The Lodge was being renovated.

With an internal area spreading about 400 square metres (or about 43 squares), the property at 78/11 Eastlake Parade in Kingston includes three bedrooms, three bathrooms and a wraparound terrace with an outdoor kitchen. It also offers two car parks and an upstairs landing, configured as a study.

The complex has an on-site building manager – which goes to explaining the high body corporate rate of $3,850 per quarter.

The “active” body corporate provides “great social activity” for building occupants, according to the advertisement.

The Turnbull’s at present are living in another apartment of theirs, in New York City.

Scott Morrison replaced Mr Turnbull as Australia’s prime minister in August. Mr Turnbull elevated himself to the position after ousting the publicly elected leader, Tony Abbott, in September 2015.

A month ago we reported that the Victorian Liberal Party division is selling a Melbourne CBD building at 104 Exhibition Street, which it bought for $576,000 in 1976. It carries price expectations of more than $25 million this time around.
